Finished Windsor Class!

Windsor Class Photo

We finished up another great chair class on Saturday evening. Here are the students with their finished chairs. I made a chair along with the guys but did not get a chance to paint it. Some of the guys took there chairs home in the red and plan to put a black coat on at home. A couple guys stayed and put on another coat of red and a coat of black paint.

Late night painting!

It really is amazing to start with the logs just six days earlier and then finish with a chair that looks like it was made 200 years ago. The milk paint really has a way of accentuating every tool mark from the travisher marks on the seat to the drawknife and spokeshave marks on the bow.

I am going to be working on a ladder back chair class, which will be sometime in the fall. I will keep you all posted on that. Thanks to all the great students. The only complaint is that we did not have enough ice cream breaks. Maybe next time!

What a great looking chair! Frank, this is another class I really want to take. What a blast to split out the materials and bend them in quick succession. Your sense of proportion seems spot-on. Each of the students chairs looks to be comfortable and yet pleasing to the eye.

    Great work to all!

      Hello Daniel,

Sorry for the slow response here, I actually was just thinking of you shortly before you sent your comment. You should definitely take the class, it is a lot of fun and lots of new skills to learn too. I probably won’t do another till next year, but I might try to do a ladder back class this year, which will have some of the same skills, busting the log, riving the wood, steam bending etc. Best wishes to you and yours.
