Summertime in Maine! – Lie-Nielsen Workshop

Lie-Nielsen Weekend Workshop

Have you considered escaping the Texas heat this coming August? Why not come up to Maine for a weekend workshop. There are many different ones to choose from but I might be biased in in telling you about a particular one!

I am delighted to get the opportunity to teach a 2 day class up at Lie-Nielsen toolworks this coming August 22-23. I can’t wait to get back up there. The shop is amazing and the facility is perfect for a class setting. And just think its only 2 days so you could probably even talk your spouse into coming along. You all can go down to the lovely village of Camden and take a sail boat ride in a 100 year old schooner. I had the opportunity to go up to Lie-Nielsen’s open house last year and I just can’t say enough about the area. It really is a wonderful vacation spot. You can fly into Boston non stop from DFW and drive 3 hrs north to Warren or you can fly a little closer if you don’t mind a layover.

Oh, I forgot to tell you what the class is about! I will be teaching how to cut half blind dovetails while each one of you make a nice little box in walnut and pine with a sliding lid. No hardware just joinery. You will get to use a plough plane for cutting the grooves. And if we get time I will show you how to customize your box with some double bevel marquetry.

See you in Maine!

    Frank,
Great blog and always good info. Any chance you will bring this two day class back to Texas and any chance of getting a blog on sharpening a scrub plane iron with the big curved end

Hello Joe, I think there is a chance of doing this project in our classroom. I will keep you all posted on it.
Definitely a good idea to do a sharpening blog, maybe a video lesson on sharpening the curved iron. Will try to get it done!
