Another Successful Windsor Chair Course Completed

From tree to chair in just 6 days! We have just finished up another successful Windsor chair course, with 7 students all completing a fine chair.

This is a great course offering many different opportunities to learn multiple skills, from riving wood from the log to shaping it with the drawknife and spokeshave;  turning parts on the lathe and shaping the seat with tools such as a scorp and travisher; and finally, finishing by putting all these parts together in a complex fashion where they all interlock and are held together with tapered joints, wedges and glue. Here are a few pictures from the week.

We hold this course once a year, so if you are interested in taking the next course send us an email so we can put your name on the list. You can also check out more information here: Windsor Chair Course

Frank, seeing the pics brought back a number of happy memories. I took the class in May, 2008, and my Windsor chair remains one of my proudest woodworking achievements.

Everyone who sees it is impressed – even more so when I tell them it was a 99% hand tool project. We recently had a renovation done on the house…and the architect and all the contractors – people who work with wood for a living – were extremely impressed.

I have NOT yet made a few on my own based on what I learned….but this is definitely on the “to-do” list.

Awesome class. Frank combines the skills of a surgeon with the patience of Job.
This class is particularly enjoyable due to the broad variety of tasks, and associted tools, involved: carving, shaping, turning, steaming/bending, and more. It’s a great way to grow your skill set. Plus the finished product contains exactly zero hardware. Amaze your friends when you tell them the chair began the week as a log!
Thanks for another excellent class,Frank. Looking forward to the Brazos Rocker in August.
