Big Mesquite Table part three

This is the top in a rough state but fitted end to end. I have two 11′ lengths with book matched “Live Edges” on the outsides. Each board took two of us to lift, so the steel strut material is a back saver for lifting.

Here it is hanging from the gantry crane with 4 straps.

This shot is of the winding sticks I used to flatten each board prior to attaching it to the whole. I did the flattening with a handheld planer and a straight edge. It really went quite well and then I finished it with our planer. One board per sharpening on the planer. I guess epoxy must have silica in it.

Here are some of the mortice and tenons up close. Each 6×6 weighs 45 to 50 lbs.

If anyone has questions please feel free to ask. I’ve had a great time with the table and look forward to seeing you all in class again soon!

Sincerely,

Mark

Looks great Mark! I can think of several times I could have used that crane. Look forward to seeing finished product.
